The Helper

Acts 7:30-50 June 10

And the story goes on...

Today we find Stephen continuing to recount the story of Moses. If you remember, he is being accused of blaspheming Moses and God.

What exactly do they mean by this?

They felt that Stephen was such an admirer of Moses, and that perhaps he saw Moses as a "little God." Stephen is trying to show them that this is not true.

Through his retelling of Moses' journey, his encountering of the burning bush, and all that transpired after, Stephen spoke honorably of Moses, showing them that he saw Moses as a man, not a "little God."

He saw Moses as a human being, subject to the same thoughts and feeling as all of us. And while he as only human, he was still a glorious instrument in the hand of God for forming the Old Testament church.

The point of his message was:

1. We are all only human. We will never be equal to God. But despite the fact that we are only human, God can use us. We can be powerful instruments for God and the plans he has for this world.

2. When God uses us in powerful ways to make a big difference, we need to remember that we are STILL only human. Nothing we do or say makes us any greater than the God we serve. Nothing makes us equal.

If you find yourself thinking more of yourself or find that someone is praising you more than they praise God, you need to get the focus back on God. Live humbly in the service he calls you to, keeping him at the center.

Another thought I have today is this...

What are the "little Gods" in your life?

What things do you spend more time thinking about, praising, and proclaiming?

Is it a relationship? A career? Money, fame, or success?

Be on guard for the "little Gods" in your life. Be watchful of ways the enemy can draw you away from God. He is a sneaky little bugger!

Remember...if you want to serve him, you have to focus on him, listen to him, and be obedient to him. That makes you a good Helper
