You Can Run, But You Can’t Hide

We have all heard the phrase “You can run but you can’t hide.” I don’t know who coined that phrase, or why, but I know it also applies to our sin and our Father in heaven.

God knows our sin. He knows our heart. Even the ugly thoughts that are whispered only to ourselves in the dark of night...He knows. Yet... He loves us anyways.

No matter the nasty heart, hurtful words, lies, or other acts of sin, we are always offered a chance for redemption. The choice is ours to take that chance or walk away from it. I am reminded of Judas Iscariot. Just shortly after Jesus brought Lazarus up from the dead, he went to dinner at the home of Mary, Martha, and Lazarus. As usual, Martha served while Mary took some costly fragrant oil and poured over the feet of Jesus, wiping them with her hair.

Judas was livid! How dare she waste that expensive oil on someone’s feet!! We are told the reasoning for his anger in John 12:6:

This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.

Here we see that Judas was a thief. He had a lust for money and took money from the box often. (Now we see why it was so easy for him to be bribed into betraying Jesus.)

God knew his sin. He could run, but he couldn’t hide. Yet he still had an opportunity for redemption. The choice was his. And we all know how that ended...he chose wrong.

What are you living with, that you think God can’t see? What are you trying to hide? God sees your sin. But the fact is...He loves you despite it. He is still waiting for you to make the right choice. He is still wanting you to step out of your darkest sin places and reach out your hand to Him.

The choice is yours. Will you run into the arms of the Father? Or will you be like Judas and carry your sin until it takes you to despair? Don’t run and try to hide. Run straight to the source of all hope and unending grace. There is no room for hiding when you have hope.
