This One’s Mine
Part of my getting quiet with the Lord and soaking in His presence is listening to praise and worship music. Recently, I was listening to the Lord’s music and I heard these words…words that I have heard many times before…but they spoke to me especially this time:
“To hear you say ‘This one’s mine’, my heart is spoken for.”
God looks at me. God looks at you. He looks at us with love in his heart and in his eyes, and he says “This one’s mine.” It’s really not that different than us looking at our own children.
How many times have you looked down at your child… after they just won an award or a sporting game, after they just recited their memory verse, after they just got some recognition that made your heart fill with pride…and said “Yep, that one is mine.”
How many times have you watched your youngster run across a playground and thought, “Wow, this one is mine!” How often have you gazed upon your adult child, felt a sense of pride, and whispered to your own heart, “Thank you Lord, this one is mine!” Their hearts are spoken for by us.
There is no love quite like a mother’s love. And there is absolutely no love like the love our Father in heaven has for us. In the moments of your darkest doubts, in the grips of your deepest fears, in your uncertainty, in your anxiousness, never forget that He gazes down at us with love in his heart.
He loves us through our sin and our shame. He loves us through the awesome moments when we stand on the mountain tops. He loves us when we are wandering in the valleys. Our hearts are spoken for. They belong to our Father. He never walks away. Through it all, there is never a moment when he doesn’t love us, when he doesn’t look down at us and say, “This one’s mine.”
I say this to encourage you to do something we should all be doing…live like you KNOW it! Live with certainty that you are His and that His love will never leave you. Don’t waste your days in doubt, fear, and pain. Let your Father guide you. Let him carry you through every storm. Let him be your Provider and your Rescuer. He will be there. You can trust in him.
After all, you are His.
