Having A Peaceable Spirit
Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God".
Did you know that as Christians, we are called to be peacemakers? We are called to create a spirit of unity amidst chaos, confusion, frustration, and anger. Knowing we are called to this standard is one thing, doing it is entirely another.
Many of us have trouble controlling our emotions. It is easy to get pulled into whatever emotion we are surrounded by at the moment. If we are in a happy crowd, we are happy. If we are among mourners, we mourn. If anger abounds, we are angry. In other words, we roll with whatever the situation is.
That is not how God calls us to be as Christians. We are to have joy in our hearts, despite our situation. We are to share that joy with those around us. When we are surrounded by chaos, peace should be our goal. Our words should speak peace. Our actions should portray a peaceable spirit. It is up to those of us who believe in the Father, and have the joy of the Holy Spirit, to walk out our lives with the purpose of being a light in the shadows of this dark world. What a beautiful opportunity to serve our God!
Don't waste your minutes being caught up in the emotions of others. Let the joy of the Lord settle deep inside your soul, and draw on it when the chaos comes. Let the peace in your heart flow out onto those around you. Calm the storms with your gentle words, just like Jesus calmed that storm so very long ago. Use the days given to you to bring the Good News to those who desperately need it. Shout it from the mountaintops.
